In 2012, work began on what would become PDX’s premier ceramics art gallery fueled by big ideas, muddy hands, and a deep love of clay. Eutectic Gallery was co-founded by Gus Van de Graeff, John Fletcher Halyburton, Joshua Kovarik, and Bretton Sage, with the added creative spark of Jeffrey Thomas.

Fourteen years and a few firings later, Eutectic Gallery is still serving clay artists with grit and passion. Now based in Willamina, Oregon at East Creek Art Studio, the gallery continues to champion ceramic arts with the same stubborn dedication that started it all.

This project serves as an archive of that original mission honoring one of Oregon’s longest-running art venues still proudly holding space for clay and community.

It all started when I went down to talk to a guy about a mould.

And after that it was go time.  We in earnest started the remodel of the what was the reception and coference room at an old pasta and Italian foods processing facility that had been turned into the new main building at Mudshark Studios a ceramic design company.
Here are the process shot of what was to become the premier PDX gallery exclusively to showcase the ceramic arts.

Eutectic Gallery's first show was a stunning exhibition of large works that were produced and completed by Kelly Garret Rathbone at the LH project in Joseph Oregon.  Kelly extended this show for several months at the Springbox Gallery in NW Portland.  Kelly and her husband Ryan settled for a while in Portland but not after a wanderlust for travel struck her.  Now she finds herself producing works in Bali and around the United States often in Montana.  She is a talented multi disciplined artist so be sure to look out for her paintings and exquisite fashion designs.  The picture gallery sums up our first show very well.
